Moderate to heavy rain today put life out of gear in several parts of Haryana with waterlogging disrupting free-flow of traffic in several towns and creating flood-like situation in others.

According to the figures of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the state witnessed 26.2 mm of rainfall during the past 24 hours taking the cumulative rainfall in Haryana so far to 235.4 mm.

This is 24 per cent departure from the normal rainfall of 189.4 mm till this day.

Karnal experienced the maximum 110 mm of rainfall, followed by Yamunanagar, Kaithal and Kurukshetra were 100 mm of rainfall was recorded on an average.

Panchkula and Ambala areas witnessed between 80 to 90 mm of rainfall, while several areas in Sonipat, Panipat and Gurugram recorded over 50 mm of rainfall.

Several localities witnessed waterlogging in Ambala and Kurukshetra due to heavy rain on Wednesday. While rainwater entered several houses, the overflowing drains and waterlogging caused inconvenience to commuters on the roads. Inco Chowk, police lines road, Sectos 8 and 9, Cloth Market, Model Town, Jalbera road, Nadi Mohalla, Jagadhri gate, and different wards witnessed waterlogging.

In Kurukshetra, areas, including Comrade Colony, Geeta Colony, Maharana Pratap Chowk, Jhansa Road, Jogia Basti, Subhash Colony, new bus stand, and Krishna Dham Market witnessed waterlogging. The residents said they witnessed such a situation every year. With the continuous rainfall, several parts of Karnal city also witnessed waterlogging. The heavy rainfall also added to the woes of farmers, who have been struggling hard to protect their crops.

Heavy rain lashed Sonepat and Panipat district on Wednesday. The roads in the city got waterlogged due to which vehicular movement was hit.
