On the occasion of 135th birth anniversary of Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar, a floral tribute ceremony was organised by Kurukshetra University (KU) in the courtyard of the Department of Law. During the ceremony, KU Vice-Chancellor, Prof Som Nath Sachdeva paid tributes to the statue of Dr Ambedkar along with university Registrar, Dr Virender Pal, deans, directors, chairpersons and other officials.

Prof Som Nath Sachdeva said, “As we honour Dr Ambedkar today, let us not merely remember his words, but let us work to embody his ideals. As an academic community, let us strive to make our institutions more inclusive, our policies more just and our students more empowered to bring about social change.”

Prof Sachdeva said Dr Ambedkar was a relentless crusader against caste discrimination and social inequality whose life stands as a testament to the transformative power of education. “Dr Ambedkar’s own academic journey — spanning Columbia University, the London School of Economics and beyond — reflects his belief in the power of learning as a tool for liberation and change,” he said.

Meanwhile, a one-day seminar was organised on the occasion of Constitution Day by the National Service Scheme (NSS) unit at Indira Gandhi National College, Ladwa. Chief Guest Rajkumar Kataria said Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar was the most educated person of his time. He used his knowledge and skills to draft a constitution that promotes social harmony in the country, Kataria said. Special guest Dr Anuradha Nagia also shared her views on the constitution, stating that the Indian Constitution grants equal rights and opportunities to every citizen. Dr Surinder Kumar, NSS programme officer, said the Indian Constitution was not just a document, but distilled essence of 200 years of continuous efforts.

Dr Kushal Pal, college principal, said, “The constitution is a means, not an end. It can provide us land, but the responsibility to cultivate that land lies with every citizen of India.”
