The Director, Urban Local Bodies, Haryana, has issued a letter in this regard, directing the Commissioner, Karnal MC, to maintain a proper record of objections and suggestions simultaneously received during a period of five days from the date of issuance of preliminary notification of wardbandi of the MC. The Director asked the Commissioner to ensure that the hearings of the objections received in this regard be done by the officer appointed by the Deputy Commissioner for the purpose.

“A draft notification has been issued by the government. It has been uploaded on the official website of the Karnal Municipal Corporation. People who have any suggestions, claims or objections regarding the draft can submit the same by 4 pm till December 18,” said Dr Vaishali Sharma, Commissioner.

“An officer appointed by the DC will listen to the submitted suggestions, claims or objections on December 19. After reviewing these inputs, a final recommendation will be sent to the state government for the issuance of the final notification,” said the Commissioner.

The Director also asked the Commissioner that if any change is recommended, then the revised map of wardbandi, draft of final notification in Hindi and English, ward-wise population data along with the reasons of change is also to be provided. The authorities have to submit a GIS map showing the boundaries of new wards and will also be provided with the report,” said the letter of the Director.

The tenure of the previous House, comprising 20 councillors and the Mayor, ended on January 4. Following this, the civic body initiated the process of redrawing the wards based on population, social composition and geographical area. The number of wards will remain 20.

Anticipating the civic body elections, the authorities sent the draft of proposed new delimitation of the KMC in April. As per the authorities, the state state government reviewed the draft proposal, assessing whether the ward delimitation is fair, balanced and legally sound.
