Draw conducted to reserve wards for SC, BC, women in Hisar MC poll
A draw was conducted for the reservation of wards for Scheduled Castes (SC), Backward Classes-A (BC-A), Backward Classes-B (BC-B) and women for the Hisar Municipal Corporation elections, at a meeting held here today.
Barwala SDM Ved Prakash chaired the meeting to conduct proceedings to reserve the wards.
Additional Municipal Commissioner Pradeep Hooda, Deputy Municipal Commissioner Virender Saharan, Secretary Sanjay Sharma and committee members, including outgoing Mayor Gautam Sardana, outgoing councillors Anil Jain, Jai Prakash, Pritam Saini, Bhup Singh Rohilla and Pinky Sharma were present during the meeting.
Hisar Municipal Corporation has a total of 20 wards. Following government guidelines, wards with the highest population of the respective categories were shortlisted for reservation. The draw resulted in the reservation of three wards for SC candidates, two for BC-A, one for BC-B and four for women candidates.
For the SC category, wards with the highest SC population — wards 9, 16 and 18 — were shortlisted. Outgoing councillor Pinky Sharma conducted the draw and ward 9 was reserved for SC women candidates. For the BC-A category, six wards (1, 3, 7, 10, 12, and 20) were considered based on their BC-A population. Outgoing councillor Jai Prakash conducted the draw, selecting wards 3 and 20 for BC-A reservation. Further, a draw was conducted by Bhup Singh Rohilla in which ward 3 was reserved for BC-A women candidates.
For the BC-B category, three wards (4, 8, and 15) were shortlisted. Outgoing councillor Anil Jain conducted the draw and ward 15 was reserved for BC-B women candidates. Finally, from the remaining 14 wards (1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 17 and 19), outgoing Mayor Gautam Sardana conducted a draw to reserve four wards for women candidates. Wards 1, 6, 10 and 14 were selected and designated as women’s reserved wards.
