Drinking water supply to be provided in 33 ‘dhanis’
Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, presiding over a meeting of the Water Supply and Sewerage Board here today, directed officials to strengthen drinking water supply in urban and rural areas and to improve sewerage systems. Along with this, the CM instructed officials to ensure drinking water supply in 33 dhanis (hamlets) and provide sewerage facilities in 12 new villages under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme.
Public Health and Engineering Minister Ranbir Gangwa was also present. Discussions were held on expediting flagship programmes of the department in both rural and urban areas, and progress of the works already approved for the current financial year was reviewed. Saini also reviewed the ongoing works under the Mahagram Yojana and directed officials to implement the schemes at a faster pace to ensure clean drinking water in every household. He instructed that complaints regarding the sewerage being laid under AMRUT 2.0 in rural areas be addressed in a timely and planned manner to avoid inconvenience to the public.
It was decided at the meeting that the department will ensure drinking water supply in dhanis having over 20 houses. For this, the department will make all necessary arrangements. The dhanis identified include two in Ambala, five in Faridabad, two in Hisar, three in Karnal, five in Kurukshetra, seven in Mewat (Nuh), two in Palwal, three in Panipat, and four in Sirsa. The CM said works in these dhanis should be carried out on a priority basis.
Officials spoke about the challenges in establishing sewage treatment plants (STPs) after laying sewerage under AMRUT 2.0 in rural areas. It was decided that before selecting villages under this scheme, it must be ensured that STPs are established there. Officials also informed that 17 projects had already been completed.
