Sirsa, September 2
There is a severe drug problem in Sirsa district, primarily due to the lack of employment opportunities for the youth in the absence of large industries, said Haryana Lokhit Party leader and sitting MLA Gopal Kanda while addressing mediapersons here today.
Kanda cited Sirsa’s distance from Delhi and the NCR as a reason for the lack of jobs. He said that he would demand industrial land for Sirsa on the pattern of Baddi and other industrial areas in Himachal.
Kanda had launched his campaign with a road show from the Delhi Pul on the Hisar road to his office in the Hisaria Bazaar here yesterday.

Kanda highlighted issues such such as the troublesome employee transfer system, farmers’ woes and water shortage, which the current BJP government had resolved. He mentioned development works carried out in Sirsa, including the Rs 35-crore drainage project and the approval for the second drainage project. He also mentioned the Baba Sarsai Nath Medical College project.
He said he would not contest from Mewat but would focus on seats around Sirsa, including Ellenabad, Rania, and Fatehabad.
Meanwhile, Gokul Setia, who had lost to Kanda by 602 votes in the last election, is at present in Bathinda (Punjab) to meet a senior leader regarding ticket allocation. He urged his supporters to start campaigning in villages without waiting for the news about the Congress ticket.
