DSP to mechanics: Don’t alter silencers of ‘bullet’ motorbikes
The local police have directed bike mechanics not to modify silencers of Royal Enfield Bullet motorcycles. The modification created disturbance for the general public, and appropriate action would be taken against those found involved in modifying silencers, DSP (Traffic) Vinod Shankar said while recently holding a meeting with bike mechanics and shopkeepers of the local auto market.
“We are taking strict action against bike riders who install modified silencers in their motorcycles and create disturbance by making loud firecracker-like sounds. Altering a motorcycle’s silencer to create such loud noises is a violation of the Motor Vehicles Act, and the police are taking strict measures, including issuing challans and seizing the motorcycles,” said the DSP.
He also warned bike mechanics of face legal consequences if they changed silencers on these bikes.
The DSP asked both riders and mechanics to avoid engaging in such illegal modifications, and reminded everyone to adhere to traffic rules for the safety and peace of the community.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson of the district police said the authorities were targeting those who modify their bikes to make loud noises, which caused panic among drivers. The police were consistently cracking down on this practice and were confiscating motorcycles as per the Motor Vehicles Act, the spokesperson added.
