Earth Day: Sirsa’s focus on clean energy, environment

Chaudhary Devi Lal University (CDLU) and Government National College, Sirsa, celebrated Earth Day with various activities promoting renewable energy and environmental awareness. At CDLU, the event was organised by the Botany Department and the Department of Energy and Environmental Sciences. This year’s theme was “Our Energy, Our Planet.” Students and researchers visited the university’s solar power plant atop the CV Raman Bhawan. Akhil, a technical expert, explained working and benefits of solar panels.

Prof Mohammad Kashif Kidwai highlighted the role of renewable energy in achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs). He discussed government schemes like PM Surya Ghar, National Solar Mission and the Suryamitra Programme that offer job opportunities in the solar sector. Faculty members including Prof Rani Devi, Prof Anju and others urged students to adopt eco-friendly practices.

Meanwhile, Government National College, Sirsa, marked the day by planting trees. Principal Dr Harjinder Singh encouraged students to care for the environment. Professors Ramesh Soni, Vikas Nain, Dr Poonam Setia and others inspired students to be aware, responsible and active in preserving the planet.
