Education Dept to hold seminars on AI to foster analytical thinking

The Education Department is set to organise science seminars at block and district levels. Students of classes 8, 9, and 10 would participate in the seminars, which are to be organised under the aegis of the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), Gurugram. The block-level seminars would be held first, followed by district-level seminars.

The district education office has directed block education officers to organise block-level seminars by July 25. The district-level seminar would be held at Government Senior Secondary School, Khairpur, on August 7.

The programme’s nodal officer, Dr Mukesh Kumar, stated the topic for the seminar would be “Artificial Intelligence: Potential and Concerns.” He said the state-level competition would take place in the last week of August at SCERT Gurugram, and the national-level competition would be held at Nehru Science Centre in Mumbai on November 20.

Dr Mukesh Kumar said students from government and private schools from classes 8 to 10 may participate in the seminars. He said the students would have to take a written exam before the seminar begins, adding that they would also have to present a presentation on a topic for 5-6 minutes.

He said judges would ask each participant three questions, of which they must answer two within two minutes. The nodal office said participants may use up to five posters, charts, or static computer slides in their presentations; however, 3D models, animations, pop-ups, and videos would not be allowed.

Sirsa district Education Officer Gyan Singh stated the top two students from each block-level seminar would advance to the district-level competition. He added the winners and runners-up at the district level would advance to the state-level competition.
