2-WEEK-LONG REFRESHER COURSE IN ENGLISH
Sonepat: Prof Panchanan Mohanty of the University of Hyderabad inaugurated a two-week-long refresher course in English for the university students and faculty members at BPS Mahila Vishwavidyalaya, Khanpur Kalan (Sonepat). Professor Mohanty said India being a nation with linguistic diversity needed language planning. Speaking on the topic ‘Role of English in Multilingual Context’, Professor Mohanty asserted that all languages by nature were scientific and enjoyed an equal status. He suggested teachers to work on grammar and other nuances of the language. Women University’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Sushma Yadava said English could play the role of a catalyst, enabling youth to explore better career opportunities globally. Course coordinator Dr Shalini said 28 teachers were participating in the course.
STATE-LEVEL POOL CAMPUS DRIVE
Hisar: Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology, Hisar, is organising a state-level pool campus drive for final year students of various streams for placement in IT company Infosys. Prof Tankeshwar Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, on the first day of the drive, said there was no dearth of employment opportunities for hard working and skilled people. Infosys is a world famous company. It was important for students to have a mastery in their field. He said in order to get employment, it was necessary to understand a problem and then come out with a unique and a reliable solution. The students must have an aptitude and an attitude to join the company. Infosys officials organsied a pre-placement talk in the main hall of the university’s Chaudhary Ranbir Singh auditorium. During the talk, North Zone, HR, Shan Vatts said according to a survey of Forbes magazine, Infosys is the third largest company in the world.
BTECH EXAMINATIONS FROM DEC 10: MDU
Rohtak: Maharshi Dayanand University will conduct examinations for students of BTech, studying in the first, third, fifth and seventh semester from December 10. MDU Controller of Examination Dr BS Sindhu said exam datesheet would be available on the university’s website. The third admission counselling for vacant seats in MPhil/PhD course(s) would be held on December 7 from 10 am in respective departments. The counselling for award of University Research Scholarship would be held on December 7 in the department concerned from 10 am.
CROSS COUNTRY RACE IN DYAL SINGH SCHOOL
Karnal: Dyal Singh Public School, Sector 7, Karnal, organised the 18th annual inter-house cross country race. DK Raina, chairman/honorary secretary, DSPS, Sector 7, was the chief guest. Brig (retd) NK Bhandari, Prof BR Gulati, General Manager, Dyal Singh College Trust Society, and other guests were present. The dignitaries were accorded a warm welcome by academic advisor Nina Rai Singh and principal Shalini Narang. Students from all four houses participated in the event with great enthusiasm. Nishu, in junior category of girls, and Piyush, in junior category of boys, were declared winners. While Sarika and Manthan won in senior category of girls and boys, respectively. Overall winner of the event was Shivalik house. DK Raina gave away prizes to the winners of various sports events and other co-curricular activities. He congratulated the students for their exemplary performance and told them to keep their spirits high.
STUDENT CULTURAL EXCHANGE PROGRAMME HELD
Karnal: Mount Litera Zee School, Karnal, organised a cultural exchange programme with Russian students in the school premises. The Literans interacted with the Russian students and exchanged social-cultural ideas with them. The programme began with I-Care activity and giving away of rossettes to all students and guests. NIFAA organised the event. A melodious welcome song by school choir, followed by an orchestra and a dance performance marked the event. A PowerPoint presentation and a video was shown highlighting the school achievements and its activities. Russian students shook a leg on a Kuchipudi dance and also presented a duet dance. They also showed a video of their school to give Literans a glimpse of their education system. Principal Deep Bedi welcomed the Russian students and appreciation certificates were awarded to them.
INTER-SCHOOL VISIT / BULGARIA STUDENTS VISIT FBD SCHOOL
Faridabad: A ten member delegation of a private school of Bulgaria visited Ashoka Memorial Public School of Sector 37. The delegation led by principal Dr Ashen Jaltrov Botyogard comprised of students and teachers. They were greeted in a traditional manner. Mamta Singh, principal of the host school, and director KK Bhatt were present. Spokesperson of the host school said the main objective of the visit was to promote mutual harmony and an endeavour to understand cultural and educational system of both schools. A delegation of the host school had visited the school in Bulgaria about six months ago. Various programmes focusing on diverse cultural identities in the country were presented, besides an interaction on ways to improve training of teachers.
