Ambala: In the zonal Bagpiper band competition held in Shimla, the girls Bagpiper Band of Police DAV Public School, Ambala City, bagged the first position and a cash prize of Rs10,000. Principal Dr Vikas Kohli said the team was honoured and blessed by the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Jai Ram Thakur, and the Education Minister, Suresh Bhardwaj. Ministry of Human Resource Development, Department of School Literacy, Government of India, organised the event. Various teams from Haryana, Punjab, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh and J&K participated in the event. The winner team has won several prizes on state, zonal and national level. The team will now compete at a national-level competition, which will be held on January 23, 2020, in New Delhi.
REFRESHER COURSE IN ENGLISH
Sonepat: Prof Panchanan Mohanty of the University of Hyderabad inaugurated a two-week-long refresher course in English for the university students and faculty members at BPS Mahila Vishwavidyalaya, Khanpur Kalan, Sonepat. Professor Mohanty said India being a nation with linguistic diversity needed language planning. Speaking on the topic ‘Role of English in Multilingual Context’, Professor Mohanty asserted that all languages by nature were scientific and enjoyed an equal status. He suggested teachers to work on grammar and other nuances of the language. Women University’s Vice-Chancellor Prof Sushma Yadava said English could play the role of a catalyst, enabling youth to explore better career opportunities globally. Course coordinator Dr Shalini said 28 teachers were participating in the course.
INFOSYS PICKS 109 CANDIDATES
Hisar: Out of 157 candidates who qualified through an online test, 109 got placed in Infosys. On the second day of the state-level Pool Campus drive of Infosys, a panel of five conducted the interview. Information of the candidates selected in the interview will be updated on the university website. Prof Tankeshwar Kumar, vice-chancellor, congratulated the candidates on their selection. Director of Training and Placement Cell, Pratap Singh Malik, said 450 participants from 40 institutions across the state participated in the placement drive. The interview was held at the Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Computer and Informatics Center of the university.
WORKSHOP ON QUALITY, INSPECTION
Palwal: A workshop on quality and inspection was organised for students of Post Graduate Diploma Aerospace Design and Robotics and Automation course in the district recently. It was held under the joint aegis of Skill Development Center of AKG Engineering College, Ghaziabad, and Shri Vishwakarma Skill University (SVSU), Dudhola. Vikram Rajput, an expert in design and proto type department, gave a demonstration on various modern machines, highlighting the utility of geometric marketing in the industry. Students received training on vision measurement machine, contour measuring machine, surface roughness machine, and 3D scanner, all of which are used in modern industries. Conveners of the workshop, Dr Sanjay Singh and Dr Manikanwar, said the students were given the opportunity to work on the modern vertical milling center machine and CMC lathe machine. Workshop co-convener Dr Preeti and Dr Bharti explained the importance of 3D scanner in today’s time.
TRAINING PROGRAMME CONCLUDES
Jind: The department of education of Chaudhary Ranbir Singh University, Jind, concluded a three-day training programme for special teachers of government elementary schools. Haryana School Shiksha Priyojna Parishad, Panchkula, funded the event. In all, 132 special teachers from 22 districts of the state, covering 119 educational blocks, attended the workshop. The programme had four sessions on Inclusive Education and Pedagogy for All. The duration for each session was of one and a half hours. Inclusive education means an educational setting where children with and without disabilities get education in the same physical, social and emotional environment with an additional support in the form of special teachers, special equipment, modified infrastructure and suitable pedagogy. The aim was to reorient the special teachers about the concept of inclusion and developing pedagogical skills for students with disability.
