Karnal, February 15

With the help of CCTV cameras installed at Phoogarh Colony, where some of the youth of an upper caste allegedly created ruckus on Thursday and vandalised houses of Dalits, the police have arrested eight more accused, taking the total to 26.

SP Ganga Ram Punia said three of the accused were juvenile. He said CCTVs installed there had helped them in establishing the identity of the accused. “We have gathered some vital evidences, which will help the police to prove them guilty,” the SP said, adding that cops were keeping close vigil in the colony.

“The safety and security of the people in the colony is our utmost priority, for which we have deployed the police there.” The SP said six teams had been employed to arrest the remaining accused.
