Eight-year-old girl sexually abused by three cousins
An eight-year-old girl was allegedly sexually abused by her three cousins in a colony of Yamunanagar. The victim has been shifted to Child Home/Balkunj (girls) in Chhachhrauli town of Yamunanagar district. One of the accused, who is a major, has been arrested, while the other two, being minors, have been apprehended.
Ranjan Sharma, Officiating District Child Protection Officer, Yamunanagar, said a man from Yamunanagar, along with his eight-year-old daughter, had approached the District Child Protection Unit on March 3. The man, a labourer who frequently shifted rented rooms, explained that his wife had passed away and he wished to send his daughter to Balkunj, Chhachhrauli.
“On the directions of the Child Welfare Committee, the eight-year-old girl was sent to Child Home, Chhachhrauli. During counselling, the girl revealed that she had been experiencing stomach pain. She further disclosed that she had been sexually abused by her three cousins — one her uncle’s son and two her bua’s (aunt’s) sons — on multiple occasions,” said Ranjan Sharma.
Following the girl’s statement, a case was registered against the three youths under Section 6 of the POCSO Act at the Women Police Station, Yamunanagar, on March 7. The action was taken on the directions of Child Welfare Committee members advocate Neera Jain, Pawan Batar and Renu Rani.
Baljeet Kaur, SHO of the Women Police Station, confirmed that a medical examination had substantiated the allegations of sexual abuse. “One accused, identified as Gursimran Singh (the victim’s bua’s son), was arrested on March 8 and has been sent to judicial custody. The two minors were apprehended yesterday and have been sent to the Observation Home in Karnal,” she said.
