Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam: 51L saplings planted in state, says CM

Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini said the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign was initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the monsoon season to combat air pollution. Giving a boost to the campaign, Haryana had successfully planted 51 lakh saplings on August 16 under the state-level plantation campaign.

While chairing a state-level programme under ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign in Kaithal on Friday, the CM said that the monsoon season was a flourishing season for flora to grow.

He urged people to not only plant saplings but also nurture them. During ‘Van Mahotsav’, 20,000 saplings were planted simultaneously in Karnal, he said. The state government has set a target of planting 1 crore 60 lakh saplings across Haryana.

The CM said during the Covid-19 pandemic, when there was a shortage of oxygen, the initiative to create “Oxyvans” had been started. One such forest had been established in Karnal as part of this effort, he said.

He said plants were the foundation of life, while appealing to the citizens to participate actively in the campaign and plant saplings at their nearby places.

Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Wildlife Sanjay Singh said he was glad that the state-level plantation campaign had started from Kaithal.
