Emphasising the importance of strict action against those involved in the sale of narcotics, Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya has directed the officials concerned to ensure the installation of CCTV cameras at all chemist shops in the district.
He also instructed officials of the Police and Health departments to conduct regular inspections of medical stores to prevent any illegal activities related to drug abuse.
The DC issued the directives while holding a review meeting of the District-Level Narco Coordination (NCORD) Committee on Friday.
The meeting focused on combating drug abuse, with serious discussions held with police and other officials on eliminating the menace of drug addiction from society.
During the meeting, Dahiya highlighted the need for action against medical store operators who had failed to comply with the CCTV installation directive.
He stressed that necessary treatment options for drug addicts be made available at the local Civil Hospital to offer timely care and support for those seeking help.
He also directed the District Education Officer to launch an awareness campaign against drug abuse in schools, with a focus on educating students through school clubs.
