Ensure names of deceased removed from voter list, Rohtak officials told

Eligible persons can apply for inclusion in list till Sept 2

Rohtak Divisional Commissioner Sanjeev Verma has directed the returning officers (ROs) of all four Assembly constituencies in the district to ensure strict implementation of the model code of conduct in the areas under their respective jurisdictions.

“The names of dead persons should be removed and new voters must be included in the voter lists on priority as per the instructions of the Election Commission of India (ECI),” the Divisional Commissioner said at a meeting to review the arrangements made for the upcoming elections here today.

17 new polling stations established

  • Polling stations in the district have been rationalised. Voters from booths having more than 1,400 voters at one booth have been shifted to the nearest booth and 17 new polling stations have been established
  • After the settlement of claims and objections, the final publication of the lists will be done on August 27. Applications for the inclusion of new names in the voter lists will be accepted till September 2
  • The cVigil app has been activated and residents can lodge complaints regarding the violation of the election code on it. Action will be ensured within 100 minutes of lodging the complaint

He cautioned the officials concerned that the ECI would take strict action in case of any lapse or negligence. Verma maintained that as per the instructions of the ECI, the returning officers should inspect all polling stations of their Assembly segments and examine the facilities. “The returning officers should also ensure that the polling stations are accessible for the voters with disabilities,” he added.

Rohtak Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Ajay Kumar said the work of summary revision of voter lists was going on as per the instructions of the ECI.

“After the settlement of claims and objections, the final publication of these lists will be done on August 27. As per the instructions of the ECI, applications for the inclusion of new names in the voter lists will be accepted till September 2,” he informed.

Meanwhile, the polling stations in the district have been rationalised as per the instructions of the ECI. Voters from booths having more than 1,400 voters at one booth have been shifted to the nearest polling station and 17 new polling stations have been established in the district.

The Deputy Commissioner said the mapping of all Assembly segments in the district was being carried out in order to identify the vulnerable polling booths.

“The district police authorities will assess the situation and may send requisition for paramilitary forces to ensure the maintenance of law and order during the elections,” he stated.

The cVigil app has been activated and residents can lodge complaints regarding the violation of the election code on it. Action will be ensured within 100 minutes of lodging the complaint.

The representatives of political parties, who were present during the meeting, have also been instructed to comply with the election code.

The Deputy Commissioner said one model polling station will be set up in each Assembly constituency of the district, where special facilities will be provided to the voters. Besides, one women polling station will also be set up in every constituency.

The meeting was attended by returning officers, assistant returning officers, block education officers and representatives of political parties.
