In view of the upcoming monsoon season, Deputy Commissioner Preeti held a meeting of officials from various departments at her office on Monday, emphasising the need for timely and effective cleaning of drains, sewer lines and water channels across the district.

She directed all department heads to take immediate steps to ensure cleanliness of all drainage and sewer systems. She stressed that necessary coordination should be established between departments and if needed, support from MGNREGA can also be taken to expedite the process. “No negligence in this matter will be tolerated,” she asserted.

Referring to clear directives from Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, she instructed that all monsoon-related cleaning activities must be completed before June 10 to prevent waterlogging in urban and rural areas. Special focus must be given to areas that have experienced water accumulation in previous years.

The DC also directed the Municipal Commissioner to launch a special campaign for sewer cleaning in all urban areas. The drains and sewers blocked by polythene or other waste must be cleaned immediately. Rainwater harvesting systems in parks should be made operational and soak pits should be constructed wherever necessary.

She instructed Public Health Engineering Department officials to ensure the cleaning of all drains and sewer lines in their areas and to monitor the progress. The Irrigation Department officials were told to complete the cleaning of all canals and drains using MGNREGA or other available resources as per norms.
