Ghazipur (Ghaziabad), March 8

International Women’s Day celebrations turned ugly at Delhi University’s arts faculty after activists of the Bhagat Singh Chhatra Manch (BSCM) and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) clashed on Monday.

The BSCM had invited Dalit activist Nodeep Kaur, her sister Rajveer Kaur and family members of a few rape victims to address the crowd.

Before Nodeep could speak, ABVP supporters led by Delhi University Students Union joint secretary Shivangi Kharwal stopped the proceedings, asking whether the organisers had permission.

After the argument, a scuffle ensued. Nodeep was allegedly dragged and BSCM vice-president Sangeeta Geet claimed that her clothes were torn.

The ABVP claimed that the clash was started by the organisers. State ABVP secretary Siddharth Yadav said the police intervened and detained persons from both sides.
