The much-anticipated event for the inauguration of three major projects in Karnal city by Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar was cancelled at the eleventh hour on Monday, leaving residents disappointed. After holding a workers’ meeting in Karnal on Sunday evening, Khattar left for Chandigarh. He was to come to Karnal on Monday for the event but his visit was cancelled due to adverse weather conditions. The authorities are expected to finalise and announce the revised schedule soon.

“Due to poor weather conditions, the scheduled programme of the Union Minister has been postponed. A new date for the inauguration of various Karnal Smart City’s projects will be announced soon,” said Uttam Singh, Deputy Commissioner-cum-CEO of Karnal Smart City Ltd. (KSCL).

As per the programme, Khattar was scheduled to inaugurate three major projects worth Rs 59 crore, which were constructed under the Karnal Smart City initiative. These include the Indoor Sports Complex in Sector 32, the Mahila Ashram Complex and the cricket ground, which were ready to be unveiled in front of the residents and sports enthusiasts, who consider these projects as milestones in the city’s development.

The facility comprises an Olympic-standard swimming pool with 10 lanes (50m x 25m) equipped with heating, filtration and lighting systems. It also features a warm-up pool (25m x 21m), a badminton hall with five courts, separate shower rooms, lockers, changing areas for men and women, and a seating area for 384 spectators. For fitness enthusiasts, the complex offers three gym halls equipped with modern exercise machines, a cross-fit training area and a yoga/meditation hall. Additional amenities include a cafeteria, medical room, administrative office and parking facilities.

Another significant project was a cricket ground in Sector 9, built at a cost of Rs1.75 crore. The ground includes a hall for players, separate restrooms for men and women, a boundary wall and an entry gate.
