EVMs kept under tight security for counting of votes on March 12

EVMs of the Karnal MC elections have been stored in strongrooms under strict police survelliance at Government PG College in Sector 14. The counting of votes will take place on March 12, for which the district administration has made all arrangements.

District Election Officer and Deputy Commissioner Uttam Singh said a dedicated police team was continuously monitoring the EVMs and political parties and candidates could also inspect them through CCTV cameras installed outside the strongrooms.

He said that the counting of the Karnal MC will take place at Government PG College, while of Nilokheri MC at Government Senior Secondary School, Nilokhero, of the Indri MC at Block Development and Panchayat Officer, Indri, of the Assandh MC at the BDPO, Assandh.

The DC said the randomisation of counting staff would be conducted, followed by their training to ensure a smooth and transparent process. All necessary arrangements were made and the returning officers were actively engaged in the preparations.

Meanwhile, supporters of candidates are also camping outside the counting centres. They are monitoring the EVMs through CCTV cameras. Congress workers on Tuesday alleged that CCTV cameras were not working for some time. However, the authorities refuted the allegation, saying power failure was the reason behind it.
