As the nation prepares to celebrate Independence Day, former Director-General of Police (DGP) Haryana, Sheel Madhur, has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to declare July 22 as national flag day. He has appealed to the PM to make the announcement from the Red Fort during his Independence Day address to the nation.
Madhur made this appeal while addressing students and teachers during a ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ function held at Modern Public School and Government School at Majra Bhalkhi village in the district.
During his address, he emphasised the importance of the Tiranga (national flag) and explained its historical significance, the values it represents, and the proper way to handle it in accordance with the Flag Code of India.
“Since 2021, I have been actively campaigning for the recognition of July 22 as National Flag Day ?— the date on which the Constituent Assembly adopted the Indian National Flag in 1947. Under the slogan “Har Har Tiranga, Ghar Ghar Tiranga”, I have been working to instill patriotic values and spread awareness about the ideals of the National flag across the country,” said Madhur.
The school students at the event showed their support for his campaign with thunderous applause. Madhur expressed optimism that the government would soon act on this long-standing demand. He also reaffirmed his commitment to continue his efforts until national flag day is declared by the Centre.
