Ex-Merchant Navy employee stabs daughter to death; attacks wife, mother with hammer
Police have arrested a 40-year-old former employee of the Merchant Navy, accused of stabbing his 9-year-old daughter to death and injuring his wife and mother by hitting them with a hammer in the Mayur Vihar locality here on Tuesday night.
The accused, identified as Sandeep Kumar of Hudiya Kalan village in Alwar district (Rajasthan), currently resides in a rented accommodation in Mayur Vihar in the city.
“On the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday, we received information that a man in Mohalla Mayur Vihar had beaten up and injured his wife, daughter, and mother. Acting swiftly, the police rushed to the spot and found many people gathered there. A lot of blood was found scattered in the room, after which the Forensic Science Laboratory team was called to visit the scene of the crime. A knife used in the crime was also recovered from the spot,” said the spokesperson of the district police.
He maintained that the accused's wife, Kusumlata, and mother, Prem Devi, said that Sandeep had stabbed his daughter, Ranvita, in the neck. Later, the girl, in critical condition, was rushed to the hospital with the help of an ambulance. The accused's wife and mother also suffered injuries in the attack and were hospitalised.
The spokesperson informed that a case of murder was then registered against the accused, Sandeep Kumar, in this respect.
Acting swiftly, the accused was arrested a few hours after the crime. The preliminary investigation suggested a domestic feud behind the crime, he added. Manish Kumar, SHO, Ram Pura Police station, told The Tribune that the accused had left his job in the merchant navy in 2017 and he used to quarrel with his wife due to some domestic issues.
“At present, Sandeep has no job. He will be produced before the court today and his remand will be sought for further interrogation,” he added.
