Rohtak, August 29
The office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) , Haryana, has asked the Rohtak Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Electoral Officer to inquire into the allegations of use of abusive language by former state minister Manish Grover against the Rohtak SP.
In a separate communique, the CEO has asked the DC to inquire into the allegations of an illegal protest and threat to public peace by BJP workers at Rohtak. The CEO has sought the report in both aforesaid matters by 11 am on August 30.
Supreme Court lawyer Karan Singh Narang, who represents the Congress, had lodged a complaint in this regard with the Election Commission of India on August 27.
Advocate Narang had also enclosed a video clip in which Grover is seen threatening the Rohtak SP. Following this, the Chief Electoral Officer of Haryana shot off the aforesaid communiques to the Rohtak Deputy Commissioner on August 28.
The complaint states that Grover, along with a large group of his supporters, staged an illegal protest in front the camp office-cum-residence of the Superintendent of Police in Rohtak on August 25.
“It has been reported that supporters of Grover attacked the police, further escalating tension and disturbing the peace and order of the city. Grover made public allegations against the Superintendent of Police. These actions are not only a violation of the model code of conduct, but also constitute an open threat to the administration,” states the complaint, adding that “ Grover’s statements and actions are an attempt to coerce the administration into registering a criminal case under duress, which is a clear abuse of power and an affront to the rule of law.”
The complainant urged the Election Commission to take cognisance of these facts and issue necessary directions and take appropriate action in this regard. It may be pertinent to mention here that a case was also registered against five BJP workers for assaulting a policeman during the said protest demonstration.
Meanwhile, the video clip of Grover threatening the Rohtak SP has gone viral on social media.
