Excise Dept auctions five more retail liquor zones in Yamunanagar dist

The Excise and Taxation Department today auctioned five more retail liquor zones of country-made liquor and Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) vends in Yamunanagar district for the excise year 2025-27. The reserve price for these five zones was fixed at Rs 38.50 crore (approx) and these were allotted for Rs 38.70 crore (approx), with an increase of 0.51 per cent.

According to information, the Excise Department today auctioned liquor zones of Fatehgarh Tumbi-Marwa Kalan, Buria Chowk-Chaneti Chowk, Azad Nagar-Gadholi, Madhu Cinema-Main Bazar (Fountain Chowk) and Harnaul-Hasanpur. In an attempt to woo contractors, the Excise and Taxation Department had reduced the reserve price fixed for auction of retail liquor zones between 10% and 17% in the ninth and 10th round of the auctions.

The department has so far auctioned 32 liquor zones of the total 55 liquor zones after holding 10 rounds of auction on different dates since May 31. Now, as many as 23 liquor zones are left for auction and a fresh date for auction of these remaining liquor zones are expected to be fixed soon.

It is alleged that the contractors are staying away from participating in the bidding of liquor zones, citing threats from miscreants, who allegedly pressurise them (liquor contractors) for unwanted benefits.

The Excise and Taxation Department has carved out 55 liquor zones in the district with a total reserve price of 484.77 crore. Alok Passi, Deputy Excise and Taxation Commissioner, Yamunanagar, maintained that five liquor zones were auctioned today.
