Mock drills were conducted at several places in Yamunanagar district on Wednesday to review disaster management preparedness following the Pahalgam terror attack.
Under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner Parth Gupta and Superintendent of Police Surinder Singh Bhoria, the drills were held at a mall in Yamunanagar, district secretariat and new grain market in Jagadhri and at sub-division level in Chhachhrauli, Bilaspur and Radaur towns.
Parth Gupta, Deputy Commissioner-cum-Chairman of District Disaster Management Authority, said the civil exercise was conducted in a planned manner in the district and adequate arrangements were made to protect life and property in the event of a disaster.
He said under the nationwide civil security exercise organised by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs and Haryana government, the mock drill was organised with the aim of testing and strengthening the civil defence mechanism and emergency response in the district.
The exercise started at 4 pm with sirens at all the marked places. People present on the first and second floors of the buildings immediately came down to the ground floor and reached safe places.
Wherever people were trapped on the upper floors during the disaster situation, they were safely brought down by fire brigade personnel and taken to the nearest hospital for treatment.
The DC said through the mock drill, people were made to identify a safe inner room or basement as shelter in case of such an emergency.
He said to create awareness among the people, a control room was set up in the district secretariat. Information about the control room number 01732-237801 was given to the public.
The DC said during the mock drill, the entire exercise was done on the basis of the information received in the said control room.
“The mock drill has been conducted to inform people about the dos and don’ts during an emergency situation and the precautions they should take,” said Parth Gupta. He appealed to the public to immediately report any suspicious activity in their area to the police and local authorities.
