Rohtak: Expedite drainage of water from fields, officials told

Deputy Commissioner Sachin Gupta has directed the officials concerned to complete the drainage of water from agricultural land at the earliest so that crops are not damaged.

He was informed that the Irrigation Department is constantly carrying out drainage work in the affected villages of the district round the clock.

Currently, 165 pumps are operational at 48 permanent pump houses for water drainage and about 2,370 cusecs of water is being discharged through the drains every day.

Gupta was reviewing the implementation of various government schemes and the water drainage work after the recent rains at a meeting with officials of the Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Department and the Irrigation Department at the mini-secretariat today.

He said the Irrigation Department should complete the drainage work with full capacity at the earliest.

"The officers concerned should visit affected villages along with officers of other related departments on a regular basis and review the situation," he said.

The Deputy Commissioner also sought information about crop damage caused due to waterlogging.

Deputy Director (Agriculture) Dr Surender Singh, Regional Groundwater Conservation Officer Neena Sehrawat, Executive Engineer of Irrigation Department Arun Munjal and other officials were present.

Meanwhile, chairing another meeting to review the redressal of complaints received at samadhan camps, the Deputy Commissioner directed the officials concerned to present a status report of pending complaints on Monday.

He further instructed that officials should work with the aim of transforming the city into a beautiful and model city before the Dasehra festival.

Gupta said the departments with pending complaints must prepare a status report so that these complaints can be resolved effectively.

He said a consolidated list of complaints should also be prepared to avoid repetitive registrations of the same issue. The officers concerned were also instructed to attach the details of action already taken by their departments on the complaints with their reports.

The Deputy Commissioner also asked the officials to analyse the complaints received at the camps to identify the areas with the highest number of problems.

"Based on this analysis, an action plan should be prepared to ensure permanent solutions," he said.

Gupta instructed the Public Health Department to ensure the disposal of all pending drinking water and sewerage-related complaints within one month.
