Experts delve into social equality & brotherhood at Sirsa university
A special lecture was held at Chaudhary Devi Lal University, Sirsa, in honour of the 648th birth anniversary of Guru Ravidas on Monday.
The event was organised by the Sant Shiromani Guru Ravidas Research Centre in collaboration with the departments of Hindi, Sanskrit and Punjabi of the university. The lecture took place at the CV Raman Auditorium.
The chief speaker, Ajit Singh Chahal from the Department of Law at Kurukshetra University, delivered an inspiring talk on the topic “Sant Shiromani Guru Ravidas: Constitutional Concept of Equality and Brotherhood”.
He highlighted how Guru Ravidas was a pioneer of social equality and brotherhood.
His ideas, he explained, aligned with the fundamental principles of equality, freedom and fraternity as laid out in the Constitution.
Guru Ravidas fought against caste and discrimination, promoting unity and harmony, values that are still relevant today. He also encouraged the youth to adopt these values for a fulfilling life.
The event was presided over by CDLU Registrar Rajesh Kumar Bansal, who wished everyone well on the occasion.
He emphasised the importance of students determining their careers and advancing in life. Under the guidance of Vice-Chancellor Professor Narsi Ram Bishnoi, such events are regularly organised at the university. Dr Rakesh Kumar, in charge of the Sant Shiromani Guru Ravidas Research Centre, shared details about the centre’s work.
He said the institute’s primary goal was to conduct research on Guru Ravidas’s thoughts and to spread his messages of equality and unity across society.
The event was attended by various faculty members, including Dean (Student Welfare) Rajkumar, Ravinder, and Amit. The speaker was warmly welcomed by Ranjit Kaur, and Jasbir Singh introduced him.
The programme was hosted by Gursahib Singh, while the Music Department, led by Vinod, performed devotional songs dedicated to Guru Ravidas. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Sewa Singh Bajwa.
