On the eve of International Women’s Day, Chaudhary Devi Lal University (CDLU), Sirsa, organised a panel discussion on the theme “Her Health, Her Power: Women’s Nutrition, the Nutrition of the Future”. The event was a joint effort of the Department of Food Science and Technology and the Women Empowerment Cell.
Dr Sanju Bala Dhul, head of the Food Science and Technology Department, discussed the importance of women’s health and well-being in today’s lifestyle. The session was hosted by Dr Jyoti Rani and Dr Chanpreet, both Assistant Professors from the Department of Botany.
The panel featured several experts, including dietician Dr Rachna Agarwal, ayurvedic physician Dr Deepika Sharma, Prof Priyanka Siwach from the Biotechnology Department and Prof Nivedita Hooda, Dean of the Faculty of Education.
The discussion focused on vital topics such as balanced nutrition, mindful eating, physical activity, adequate sleep and emotional well-being. Prof Priyanka Siwach stressed the importance of mental and emotional health, encouraging women to embrace self-acceptance and self-love. Prof Nivedita Hooda highlighted the need for diets rich in protein, fibre and healthy fats, emphasising the negative impacts of junk food.
Dr Rachna Agarwal talked about the significance of a balanced diet for women, focusing on proper portion sizes and the benefits of seasonal foods. Dr Deepika Sharma explained the ayurvedic concept of the three ‘doshas’ - vata, pitta and kapha and discussed the role of correct dietary choices in maintaining menstrual health.
The programme saw enthusiastic participation from the NCC Army wing girls, who delivered inspiring speeches and presented posters on women’s empowerment. NCC cadets Kavita and Saty, through their poetry and presentations, highlighted the rights and empowerment of women. NCC coordinator Prof Rachna Ahlawat emphasised the importance of educating students about their rights and raising awareness to strengthen the role of women in society.
