During interrogation, it came to light that Amandeep and Ranjit were running the call centre, while the remaining were working as employees.

The accused disclosed that they had created a Facebook page, “The Vedic Ayurvedic”, on behalf of Dr Rajiv Dixit and used to put advertisements in the name of selling herbal medicines for improving sexual health. When people contacted the numbers mentioned in the advertisements, they used to take orders from them, get the money deposited in different bank accounts and deliver fake herbal medicines.

The accused also used to commit fraud by making the customers deposit money through a QR code/UPI-ID in the name of GST charges, packing charges and courier charges, the ACP said, adding that the call centre was being run for the past about 10 months.

The employees were being given a salary of Rs 18,000 to Rs 20,000 per month and incentives for additional sales.

Further investigations were underway to identify other persons involved in this cyber fraud, the police official added.
