Fake call centre raided in Gurugram, 8 nabbed
The Gurugram cyber police have raided a fake call centre that was being run at a rented accommodation in Delhi’s Badarpur area.
Officials have arrested eight persons, including six women, who would dupe people on the pretext of providing them easy loans. Twenty-five mobile phones and Airtel WiFi dongles were recovered from their possession. The accused were identified as Raj Mandal, a native of Pilibhit in Uttar Pradesh; Rohit Kumar of Mittal Colony in Delhi; Roji of UP; Ruby, Shayra and Seema Sinha of Faridabad; Gyanti of Okhla in Delhi; and Mantash of Badarpur, Delhi.
According to the police, a man had filed a complaint on February 4, stating that he was defrauded of nearly Rs 18,000 by a man posing as a representative of the Axis Bank. The accused had taken the money online on the pretext of providing him a loan. An FIR was registered at the Manesar cybercrime police station.
During probe, the police team conducted a raid at the fake call centre in Badarpur, Delhi, where some men and women were busy on mobile phones. They did not possess any valid OSP licence by the Department of Telecommunications or any other agreement/MoU related to their work. “They had been running the centre since May 2024,” said Priyanshu Dewan, ACP (Cyber).
