A scam of awarding a contract of sewerage cleaning, allegedly on fake work experience documents submitted by a contractor in the local Municipal Corporation (MC), has come to light.

Sources said the contractor of the civic body used fake experience documents, including financial statements, to get the contract.

MC Chief Engineer Vishal Bansal, while talking to The Tribune, confirmed that the issue of awarding the contract on false and fabricated documents of work experience by the contractor had come to his notice.

“I have summoned all records of the works done by the contractor and will look into the documents submitted by him,” Bansal said. He also told the authorities concerned to look into all previous works done by the contractor in the local body.

The MC official said that if the controversial contractor was found guilty, he would be definitely blacklisted by the local body. It could also invite a legal action if the fraud was established in the inquiry. Another senior official of the MC did not rule out the possibility of some officials of the local body also involved in awarding the contract.

The civic body will inquire the matter and if anybody was found guilty, a departmental action would be initiated against him/her, the official added.

In 2023, the MC had awarded contracts of sewerage cleaning in Kanhai village, Silokhera, Sushant Lok-1, Greenwood City and Sector 45 areas for cleaning sewerage lines.

Many local contractors had applied in the bid, but the MC awarded the contract to Rajesh Kumar, a local contractor, against whom an inquiry has been ordered by the Chief Engineer. The contractor was not available for comments.
