Nine months after Hisar girl Harshita Soni went missing under mysterious circumstances from her residence, her parents staged a sit-in at the Mini Secretariat in Hisar, demanding urgent action from the police to relocate the missing girl.

The grieving family, residents of Azad Nagar in Hisar, said they have received no concrete leads from the authorities despite repeated appeals. “We have already met the Chief Minister twice, but there has been no progress in tracing our daughter. Our struggle will continue until she is found,” said Sunil Soni, Harshita’s father, during the protest.

As Harshita turned 17 today, the parents decided to observe one-day dharna to again press for their demand to find the missing girl.

The case, registered on September 29, 2024, alleges that Harshita went missing under suspicious circumstances. The family claims there has been gross negligence on the part of the local police.

Sunil, his wife and their two minor sons had also marched to Ambala to meet minister Anil Vij in an attempt to highlight their demand.

On January 9, the family attempted self-immolation outside Gate number four of Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University (HAU) during a programme attended by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini. The CM met them briefly and assured action, directing the police to intensify efforts.

Following this, the case was handed over to the human trafficking cell of the Hisar police, which is currently investigating the matter.

Hisar police spokesperson said that the matter has been transferred to the missing persons cell of the Haryana police for further action in the case.
