Farmer leader remembered

A memorial meeting was organised at the Comrade Library in Gorakhpur village of Fatehabad district on the fifth death anniversary of farmer leader Krishan Swaroop Gorakhpuria today.

Balbir Singh, a social activist, said, “Gorakhpuria went to jail in 1969 for agitation in support of imparting school education in mother tongue. He was jailed in 1973, for raising voice against the attack on democracy.”

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.
