As the farmer unions have given a call for ‘Dilli Chalo’ march on February 21, leaders have called upon farm activists in Ambala to join the protest at the Shambhu border in large numbers.

While a large number of activists and leaders of Ambala-based Bhartiya Kisan Union (Shaheed Bhagat Singh) have already been camping on the Punjab side of the Shambhu border, the union has appealed to the local farm activists to get ready to join the protest on Wednesday.

Gurmeet Singh, district president, BKU (Shaheed Bhagat Singh), said, “As our leaders have given the call to move towards Delhi on Wednesday, we have asked the local activists to join the march at the Shambhu border in large numbers. So far, our activists had been waiting for the directions but now they will participate in the protest with their tractors and other vehicles.”

“While the farmers wanted to hold peaceful march, the government has blocked the highways, causing inconvenience to commuters. We have deployed heavy machinery at the Punjab side to break the barricades. Thousands of farmers will join the protest from Haryana tomorrow to boost the morale of activists,” he said.

The farmer leader said the Central government had no intention to accept the demands of farmers and it was trying to deviate the farmers, which was not acceptable. The police personnel had been making rounds in villages in an attempt to put pressure on them, but such tactics won’t work, he said.
