Farmers not being paid right, says Deepender

Former MP from Rohtak Deepender Hooda on Thursday alleged that farmers had fallen in debt trap due to rising input cost. He said they were getting un-remunerative prices of their produce as the government had failed to ensure adequate MSP.

Addressing a public meeting, in Umra village, on the occasion of birth anniversary of peasant leader Sir Chhotu Ram, Hooda said it was shocking that the prices of sugarcane had been increased by a mere of Rs 30 per quintal in past six years. “When the BJP government came to power, all the payments were already cleared by the previous government,” he said adding that farmers were up in arms against the government as they were not getting adequate payment of their produce.

The former MP said similar was the condition of paddy farmers as they got up to Rs 5,000 per quintal price of paddy but, after the BJP came to power, the prices dropped to as low as Rs 1,250 per quintal. He said a number of farmers were on the verge of financial bankruptcy as the debt was going up and input cost had doubled while anti-farmer BJP government was not paying any heed to their problems. — TNS
