Farmers of Shekhpura village today opposed the erection of the proposed high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission towers from their agricultural fields.
The is put the supply of power generated by the Karnal Cooperative Sugar Mill to the substation of the Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Limited (HVPNL) in Shekhpura Jagir village in jeopardy.
Scores of farmers protested at the Mini Secretariat, demanding the government to reconsider the project. Farmers also handed over a memorandum to Tehsildar Raj Baksh Arora to be given to Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.
Farmers alleged that the lines were being erected against the natural trajectory course. They said the lines would go against the rights of farmers and cause financial loss to the state exchequer as well.
Farmers of Shekhpura Jagir and Ranwar villages said power transmission was feasible through the 33kv line also and which would not adversely affect farmers.
“Karnal Cooperative Sugar Mill is going to generate 18MW power and is expected to supply 13MW to the Power Corporation, for which 33 KV substation is enough,” said Raman Kumar, a farmer from Shekhpura village.
Farmers have no issue with the installation of 33 KV lines as it would cause farmers any major loss while the 132 KV power transmission lines would adversely affect farmers as they won’t be able to perform farming activites under high-voltage current wires.
