Former Labour and Employment Minister Krishan Murti Hooda who also serves as the state spokesperson for the BJP, organised a ‘Kisan Samvaad’ (dialogue with farmers) at Kharawar village here on Sunday.

The event aimed at providing farmers with a platform to raise their issues and concerns, which would then be presented to Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini for resolution.

“During the event, the farmers brought up the issue of water scarcity for irrigation and the inadequacies of the drainage system, which led to waterlogging during the rainy season. They also expressed their appreciation for the Chief Minister's announcement to procure 24 crops at the minimum support price (MSP), calling it a significant relief for the farming community,” said Krishan Murti.

The BJP leader pointed out that the farmers who attended the event unanimously passed a resolution, urging CM Nayab Singh Saini to raise their demand before Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “The farmers called for a doubling of the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi’s amount, describing the scheme as a life changer for the poor farmers. They argued that increasing the amount, in line with inflation, would significantly benefit the farming community further,” Krishan Murti added.

Some farmers also raised local issues, such as waterlogging and non-functional streetlights. Bijendra Malik, a former Sarpanch, highlighted that the road leading to the railway station in the village was often waterlogged, causing inconvenience to the residents. He demanded that the issue should be addressed on a priority basis. Another farmer pointed out that the streets were left in darkness due to non-functional streetlights.

“I have been organising dialogues with the farmers by holding meetings at various villages across Rohtak district. I take note of all demands and concerns raised by the farmers during these events. These will later be compiled into a document that will be presented to the Chief Minister for resolution. The meetings also allow me to understand the ground realities and the challenges the farmers face in the field,” said Krishan Murti.

He added that the meetings had also been valuable in receiving direct feedback from the farmers about the government’s functioning and farm-related schemes.
