Feeling distressed by the disruption caused to their daily farm activities, farmers of Sihali, Paprala, Rattakhera and other villages in Kaithal district demanded access to their fields located across the Sihali checkpoint on the Ghaggar on Thursday.

They cited the checkpoint as the cause for inconvenience, making it challenging for them to reach their fields. They had threatened the administration to open the checkpoint or they would be forced to open it themselves. Later in the evening, the administration provided them with access through the checkpoint by allocating some space, although police personnel were stationed there to prevent the entry of farmers from Punjab into Haryana.

The farmers alleged that the checkpoint hindered their movement and access to their fields, significantly impeding their agricultural activities. “We have been facing a lot of difficulties due to this checkpoint. We cannot even reach our fields or bring fodder for our livestock. The administration should provide relief to the farmers living along the Sihali checkpoint,” said a farmer.

Superintendent of Police Upasana said the farmers had requested some space to reach their fields, which was granted. “We are facilitating the farmers to give access to their fields and take care of their crops,” the SP added.
