The Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), a prominent farmers’ association, submitted a memorandum to the District Commissioner (DC) in Palwal today, accusing authorities of delaying or mishandling the resolution of various demands related to the farming community.

Mahender Singh Chauhan, a spokesperson for the SKM, highlighted several unresolved issues, particularly regarding crop damage compensation due to rain and hailstorms. He stated that many farmers had yet to receive proper compensation for their crop losses, despite it being raised at various platforms, including the CM window.

Chauhan specifically cited the case of Sant Ram, a farmer from Bamni Khera village, who was denied full compensation for his crop losses (between 51 and 74 per cent) caused by hailstorm in February of last year. Despite raising the issue, no relief had been provided.

The farmers also brought up the delay in issuing procurement slips by the Cooperative Sugar Mill officials, a problem that could affect the timely harvesting and sale of sugarcane crops. Additionally, the farmers complained of a shortage of irrigation water, with the Agra canal failing to release adequate water for farming in the region.

District Commissioner Dr Harish Kumar Vashisht directed the Additional DC (ADC) to address these concerns and resolve the issues following the submission of the memorandum.
