Fatehabad: Farmers seek land reclamation
Hisar, January 22
With a large area of agriculture land rendered useless due to waterlogging and salinity in several villages of Fatehabad district, farmers have launched an agitation for treatment and reclamation of the land under the government’s waterlogged land reclamation action plan.
Farmers of several villages, including Thuiyan, Gadli, Dabi Kalan, Ban Mandori, Pili Mandori Bhattu Kalan and Daiyer, have been sitting on a dharna at the sub-tehsil office in Bhattu Kalan village for many months. They have alleged that they had been taking up the issue with the administration, but to no avail.
Activist Kamal Bisla of Thuiyan village, said a total of about 30 thousand acres of agriculture land in 25 villages was affected by waterlogging. Assistant Soil Conservation Officer Bijender Singh said 24 thousand acres was affected by waterlogging mostly in Bhattu Kalan.
He said the project of land reclamation was already underway in three villages.
