A confrontation between farmers and the administration was witnessed in Nuh district on Tuesday.

The farmers, who had been sitting on a dharna for five months at Dhirdoka village to seek compensation, staged a sit-in at the Haryana State Industrial & Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC) office in Rojka Meo.

Farmer leader Ravi Azad said 1600 acres of farmers’ land in nine villages — Kherli Kankar, Meharola, Badelaki, Kanwarsika, Rojka Meo, Dhirdoka, Rupahedi, Khod (Bahadri) and Rewasan — was acquired for IMT, Rojka Meo, in 2010.

Farmers of nine villages called a mahapanchayat on Tuesday. They said 35 days given to the administration have been completed, but no response has come so far.

In the Mahapanchayat, the farmers decided that the development work going on in IMT, Rojka Meo, will be stopped. After this, a march was started from the protest site to the HSIIDC office, where a huge police force has been deployed.

The government had acquired the land of farmers of nine villages by giving a compensation of Rs 25 lakh per acre. Subsequently, the government also acquired the land in Chandavali and Machhgar villages of Faridabad.

Accusing the government of acquiring their land at cheap rates, the affected farmers of Faridabad had filed a petition in a court to seek an increase in compensation. The court had ordered the authorities to pay them Rs 2 crore per acre.

Farmer leader Azad said when the government got to know about the protest of the farmers of these nine villages, it assured them that it would give them Rs 46 lakh per acre. The government got the farmers to sign an affidavit so that they could not go to the court.

“They gave Rs 21 lakh to each farmer and promised to give another Rs 25 lakh later. But, farmers have not received the remaining Rs 25 lakh till date,” Azad added. — OC
