Despite the Central Government confirming an adequate — even surplus — supply of DAP fertiliser to Haryana for the ongoing kharif 2025 season, farmers in many districts continue to face acute shortage. The situation has sparked allegations of distribution lapses at the state level.

In a written reply to Lok Sabha Question No. 2979, the Centre stated that Haryana had received more DAP than its assessed requirement. As per Department of Fertilisers’ data, the state’s total demand for the season was pegged at 2.83 lakh metric tonnes, with a prorated requirement of 1.57 lakh metric tonnes till July 30. Against this, 1.59 lakh metric tonnes were supplied, along with an additional stock of 0.33 lakh metric tonnes still available in the state.

However, ground reports tell a different story. Farmers in several districts have been queuing for hours at distribution centres, often returning empty-handed. Some allege that supplies are being diverted to the black market, a charge that state authorities deny.

Highlighting the mismatch between official data and farmers’ experiences, Kumari Selja, former Union Minister and sitting MP from Sirsa, voiced concern.

“This clearly indicates either serious flaws in the distribution mechanism or a mismatch between official supply data and actual availability,” she said.

She urged urgent intervention, stressing that timely and fair access to fertiliser is critical during the sowing period.

“The state government must take immediate corrective steps, and the Centre should ensure that real-time monitoring reflects the situation on the ground,” she added.
