The meeting also resolved to work in the direction of enhancing people’s participation at the dharna spot to show the strength of farmers to the BJP governments at the Centre and in the state. Office-bearers of various farm outfits also participated in the meeting.
“Leaders of Kundu, Ahlawat, Rathi, Nandal and Hooda khaps along with leaders of various farm outfits discussed the prevailing situation in the meeting and decided to garner support for the agitation from other khaps active in various districts of the state. Though the number of people at the dharna spot is rising with each passing day, it was resolved to ensure maximum participation of people from nearby villages,” said Jaivir Singh, president, Kundu Khap.
He said it was also decided in the meeting to contact leaders of other khaps at the earliest to convince them for holding a joint meeting of all khap panchayats within a couple of days over the prevailing situation. The meeting also decried the action taken by the police against the farmers at the Punjab borders, he added.
“All khap and farm leaders unanimously decided not to stage dharna at any other place in Rohtak district except Titoli,” Jaivir added.
Monika Raman Nain, a woman farm leader, said the khap leaders while expressing their solidarity with the farmers’ demand promised them of providing all sorts of succour needed to strengthen the agitation.
“This was for the first time when leaders of prominent khaps of Rohtak district reached our dharna spot today and announced their support publicly. We are in constant touch with our counterparts in Punjab and discussing the situation with them on a daily basis,” she claimed.
She said all protesters at the dharna spot were in a standby mode and would take no time to execute the directives they received from Punjab borders regarding the ongoing farm protest.
