AIKS district committees have been asked to immediately organise demonstrations demanding dewatering of floodwater in order to facilitate rabi sowing.

After a detailed discussion by over 200 delegates, a report on the “present agrarian crisis” and future tasks was unanimously passed, and a 35-member new state committee was elected. Balbir Singh and Sumit were re-elected as president and general secretary, respectively, for a three-year term.

Rajender Battu was elected treasurer; Jagroshan, Satbir Dhayal, Vishnu and Mahipal joint secretaries; and Shamsher Nambardar, Dimpal and Preet Singh vice-presidents.

A series of resolutions were adopted on issues such as the US tariffs, debt, stray cattle menace, electricity privatisation, communal and caste polarisation, and the “gross irregularities” in the PM Fasal Beema Yojana.

In another resolution, the conference demanded a pro-farmer policy in the state, in consultation with representatives of farmer organisations.

National secretary Krishna Prasad stressed the need to strengthen the organisation at the village primary units under the slogan “Har Gaon mein kisan sabha, kisan sabha mein har kisan” (kisan sabha in every village, every farmer in kisan sabha).

Criticising the government, he said it was procuring crop below the MSP, and allowing corporate companies to sell “finished goods” at very high rates.
