Dr Himanshu Pathak, the Secretary of Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE) and Director General, Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), said, “Agriculture plays an enabling role in the welfare of society. To make agriculture sustainable and profitable, farmers will have to adopt advanced agricultural techniques.”
He said, “Though the pace of transmission of agricultural technology may be slow, its benefits are sustainable for a long time and Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) play an important role.”
He also laid the foundation stone of training-cum-seminar hall under the corporate social responsibility scheme of Indian Agricultural Insurance Company Ltd at the KVK, ICAR-National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal.
He said the ICAR had an effective and good agricultural extension system in the country, which had been appreciated all over the world and 731 KVKs under various host organisations were carrying out agricultural technology extension and evaluation.
Director and Vice Chancellor of the institute, Dr Dheer Singh, said more than 20,000 farmers, extension officers, students and other stakeholders visited the KVK for training and educational tour every year.
