As many as 20 farmers from Loharwada, Dadri, Jind and Karnal participated in the training. In the closing function, Dr RK Yadav, Director (A), emphasised on the importance of soil water testing for better crop productivity. Dr Anita Mann briefed about the objective of the scheme for capacity building of farmers through various subject matter specialist interactions. Dr Ashwani Kumar highlighted the importance of halophytes in better utilisation of salt-affected soils. Dr BL Meena explained the correct way of soil and water sampling for getting soil health card.
Light and sound show presented
Karnal: A light and sound show ‘Saka Sirhind’ was presented by artistes at Dr Mangal Sen auditorium of the city late on Saturday evening. The show was based on the martyrdom of the younger sons of Guru Gobind Singh and the sacrifices of Mata Gujri. It was shown during a programme ‘Safar-e-sahadat’ jointly organised by Haryana Punjabi Sahitya Academy, NIFAA, Genusis and Sahodya school complex. Mayor Renu Bala Gupta, NIFAA chairman Pritpal Singh Pannu and other guests expressed their views.
Sikder assumes charge
Panipat: Gopal Chandra Sikder has assumed charge as Executive Director (ED) of Indian Oil’s Panipat Refinery and Petrochemical Complex (PRPC). Prior to taking charge as ED at PRPC, Sikder was working as Chief General Manager (CGM-Incharge) of PRPC. Sikder is a mechanical engineering graduate from NIT, Durgapur, and has PG Diploma in Management (Finance) from Management Development Institute, Gurgaon. He joined Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) in 1988.
Rafi night organised in Ambala
Ambala: The “Ek Sham Rafi Ke Naam” was organised on the premises of SD Vidya School in memory of playback singer Mohammad Rafi by Ambala Musical Club in collaboration with SD Vidya School, Ambala Cantonment. Chairman of Ambala Musical Club Dr Naveen Gulati said that Rafi Night has been organised by the club for the fifth consecutive time. Former Additional Chief Secretary, Haryana Government, SS Prasad, Chief Post Master General Haryana Ranju Prasad and Additional Deputy Commissioner Jagdeep Dhanda also performed on the occasion.
Blankets distributed
Sonepat: Under its seasonal welfare moves, volunteers of Jan Chetna Manch led by Dr Sunita Tyagi distributed blankets among 100 women living in ‘jhuggis’ near the embankment of drain no-8 at Gohana town in the district late on Saturday evening. Dr Tyagi said families living in the ‘jhuggis’ did not have sufficient resources to protect themselves and their families from severe cold conditions and required help from voluntary organisations. The manch has been participating in various social welfare activities for the past more than 35 years in one way or the other.
Shooter Kajal Saini felicitated
Rohtak: Rotary Club here felicitated shooter Kajal Saini for bringing laurels to the state and the nation by winning four medals, including two gold and two bronze, in the Asian Shooting Championship and South Asian Games held recently in Doha (Qatar) and Kathmandu (Nepal) respectively. Naresh Jain, chief of the club, said residents of Rohtak were proud of her achievements. “Kajal’s success not only is an inspiration for budding players, but has also encouraged parents to provide ample opportunities to their daughters for proving their mettle,” said Jain.
