Activists of the farmers organisation Gram Swaraj Kisan Morcha inspected waterlogged areas at Saangwan village of Bhiwani district today and demanded compensation for affected farmers at the earliest.
The activists jointly from the Gram Swaraj Kisan Morcha and Gau Kisan Samriddhi Trust visited the village to assess the damage caused by severe waterlogging. The activists team interacted with farmers and villagers, discussing in detail the hardships faced due to the prolonged rains.
The visiting team members said the water was still standing in the fields resulting in damage to the crops and massive financial losses for the farmers. The waterlogging had also disrupted daily life at the village.
Yudhvir Mangal Singh, youth state president of the Gram Swaraj Kisan Morcha, and general secretary Raghubir Bhera expressed concern over the situation and warned that stagnant water would increase the risk of diseases, which could adversely impact the villagers’ health. They urged the administration to arrange immediate drainage measures to normalise the situation.
The morcha demanded that the government provide compensation of Rs one lakh per acre to the affected farmers. Local leaders, including Rambir Fauji and Jagbir Alakhpura, and other activists served an ultimatum to the local administration to act promptly otherwise they would resort to protests. They expressed hope that the authorities concerned would take immediate measures. Those present during the visit included Sarpanch Baljeet Redhu, Rambir Fauji from the Tosham unit of Ex-Servicemen Association Haryana, Kohar Singh Nambardar, Raghubir Singh, Pawan Bhalothia, Tosham Block Pradhan Ishwar Baganwala, Rajpal Chahar, Jagbir Alakhpura, Rajbir Baganwala, along with villagers Ujala Ram Duhan, Gopi Balouda, Sanjay Kumar, Sombir Duhan (BKU), Ravindra Kumar, and Parmal Singh.
