Sirsa, July 24

Residents of Street Number 4 of Ward 9 at Ashok Nagar in Fatehabad have finally taken a stand against the authorities after years of neglect over the construction of their street. Expressing their discontent, they have put up a banner outside their street prohibiting political leaders and workers from entering the area till their demands are met. They said they were even contemplating boycott of the upcoming Assembly elections.

Residents said their street, which was in a poor state, had not been developed for the past two decades. Despite numerous pleas to officials, political leaders and court, no heed was paid to their grievance.Residents said the failure of the authorities to construct the street had created significant hurdles in the development of the area. Over 30 households in the vicinity were deprived of proper sewerage facilities, they said. They said politicians visited their locality during elections, made promises and then disappeared once the elections were over.

They said they had taken a decision that they would not allow any political party leaders or workers to enter their locality for campaigning in the upcoming elections.

They emphasised that no votes would be cast by residents here, and if necessary, they would block major roads and resort to protests till their demands are fulfilled.
