Father, stepmother get life imprisonment for murder of kids
Court also imposed a fine of Rs 30,000 on each convict
The court of Additional Sessions Judge, Faridabad, Surender Kumar has sentenced a father and stepmother to life imprisonment for the murder of their two children. The accused father had killed his five-year-old son and four-year-old daughter by strangling the children with his foot and then drowning them in a well because his second wife did not like them.
The court has also imposed a fine of Rs 30,000 on each convict. The incident occurred on May 18 in 2023. A case of murder was registered against the 37-year-old Bhagat Singh, who originally hails from Palwal and was currently living in Shyam Colony in Sector 58. The accused father was arrested within an hour of the incident.
According to advocate Ravinder Gupta, a property dealer Dhirendra Singh, a resident of Sector 58, went with a friend to view a plot near Shagun Garden, located near Sikri Chowki on May 18, 2023, around 1 pm. About a hundred metres away, he noticed a group of people, which called him to the scene. He saw a man standing in the well and people told him that the man had jumped into the well with his two children. Immediately, Dhirendra arranged for a rope and went down into the well. After going down, Dhirendra saw that the person who jumped inside was Bhagat, who had held his five-year-old son Nishu and four-year-old daughter Bindu under his feet in the water. He pushed Bhagat and with the help of others both children were pulled out and rushed to B K Hospital, where doctors declared them dead.
After getting information, a police team reached the spot and arrested the accused.
During interrogation, the accused revealed that his first wife Kaushal had died two years ago and from whom he had both these children. He then married Asha, whom used to quarrel with him over these children. His second wife did not take care of them properly and they fought frequently over the issue, so he killed them. Later, the police also arrested Asha, the stepmother.
“There were no eyewitnesses as no one saw Bhagat jumping into the well with his children. However, people made videos of him strangling the children with his foot. These videos served as evidence in court. Based on this, the court sentenced the father and stepmother”, said Gupta.
