Panipat, January 6

A major fire broke out on the first floor of a textile industry in Sector 29, Part-2 of the city, on Monday.

Firefighters of the Municipal Corporation, Panipat (MCP), Panipat Thermal Power Station, IOCL Refinery, National Fertilisers Limited (NFL) and Samalkha took more than eight hours to douse the flames. No casualty was reported in the incident, but ready products and raw material worth crores of rupees was destroyed.

The fire incident in Rakesh Textiles at plot number 69, which is a curtain manufacturing unit, was reported at 7: 05 am on Monday. Two fire tenders from Sector 25 reached to douse the flames within minutes, but the fire could not be controlled. After getting information, more fire tenders were called.

Fireman Amit Kumar said due to some liquid petroleum product in the factory, the fire spread massively and in a few minutes engulfed the entire unit.

Fire tenders from Samalkha, IOCL Refinery, NFL and Thermal were called to douse the flames, he said. Around 100 employees of the fire wing and 16 fire tenders brought the flames under control in over eight hours, Amit Kumar said. Factory owner Rakesh Khanna said he purchased the factory 10 years ago and around 40 workers were working here.

The factory was closed on weekend and workers came on Monday at 6 am. They informed about the fire and also tried to control the flames with fire extinguishers but to no avail, he said. No casualty was reported and the reasons behind the fire is still unknown, Amit Kumar said.
